Glazes of white and lilac have been laid over a deep, burnished purple to denote the tension between passion and the gentleness of expressions of tenderness in morning kisses. The work is textured, having been built up over many sittings. There is a contrast between the more translucent oils of the purple elements to show unrestraint with the opaque creams in the lower half, showing the milky-air quality of waking.
