Oil on canvas
(Stretched and ready to hang)
An abstracted spring landscape employing a contrast between pastels and earthy ground. The ground is painted using old master browns, to convey a sense of antiquity and history; something settled and established. This is contrasted against a sky which falls into blossom. The brushwork towards the top of the painting is left fairly unblended to give a vertical sense of energy, whereas the earth is smooth, to denote its warmth.
It is called Le Plaisir to mark the relocation to France. The forests in Aquitaine are some of the largest and most beautiful in Europe. To encounter these landscapes is truly pleasurable.
