Oil on canvas
150cm x 100cm x 2cm
Oversized, surrealist landscape in oils. Top glazes shroud the structured images below which make them dream-like. In different lights, they seem to resemble different objects, perhaps a ship, perhaps a floating lake. My own mind often blurs the line between 'real' and 'unreal' and my own dreams are sharply vivid. I love that my mind gives me that much to play with and I also love art which means different things at different times (although this is probably all art!).
The ground is painted in a beautiful rich green to anchor the surreal element. The floating lake or murmuration of starlings (or whatever else you want it to be) is created from T2 New York breakfast tea leaves, secured into the paint. I think this adds another layer of surrealism and unreality which is playful and the reason for the title of the painting. The work has also been sealed with varnish.
