This painting celebrates the quality and sensations of being deep in a pine forest. The artist lived in the Landes de Gascogne which is a vast forest, the size of London and is located in South West France. The time spent walking daily in the forests with her dog had a profound effect on her. She speaks of both the stillness and the vitality of the forest, the deepest greens, painted here in premium quality on oils over Dutch metal leaf, which has been applied in an abstract way in the underpainting. Further gold oil paint has been used to create almost flame like forms to capture the incandescent light which comes through the trees at dusk and furthermore, invigorates the soul with a transcendental fire.
